World of Warcraft - Wrath of the Lich King announced!

WoW - Wrath of the Lich KingYes, back to the 10 hour gaming sessions to grind your stupid little avatar up a few more pointless levels, because Blizzard have just announced that the 2nd expansion to the MMO World of Warcraft is coming!

The Wrath of the Lich King will allow adventurers to explore the new zones of “Northrend” while they level their characters to a new cap of level 80.  Other new features include:

  • New “hero” class - Death Knight
  • New profession - “Inscription” - allows you to augment your spell powers
  • New dungeons
  • New character customisations including new hairstyles and dancing (God save us - Youtube will crash as it is swamped with more lame videos!)

No release date is set yet, but you can keep an eye on the micro site for more information.

Great!  More of your life is drained away with yet another pointless “adventure”.  I downloaded the preview video on the WoW mirco site - it has a nice Lord of the Rings feel to it.  I’m sure I’m not the only one that thinks that type of adventure would actually be pretty cool - unfortunately what the video doesn’t show is the reality of the situation.  That tranquil environment suddenly poisoned - not by some seemingly all powerful foe - but by some dumbass 14 year old shouting “OMG dude you suck!”.

If Frodo stepped out of the Shire into to meet a bunch of loudmouth chavs I’m fairly certain he would have ditched the damn ring, went home, phoned some takeaway and watched a film instead!

I can’t wait until the next expansion - World of Warcraft - Invasion of the Burberry Chavs.  It has customisable plaids outfits (3 whole colours to choose from), new weapons (empty bottles of Buckfast), new dungeons to explore (rubbish tips, housing estates and the mythical dole office), new abilities (dodge the ASBO, mug the pensioner, impregnate your girlfriend) and players will be challenge to immerse themselves in the world by joining their characters in not washing for a year.

Unfortunately I hear the name generator will be removed from the game, so everyone will be called Colin but with the vast range of regional dialects (or inabilities to pronunciate properly), it will seem like some far off mystical land.

Score!

[...] most recent expansion in the long running MMO.  A fairly lackluster launch though - compared to WoW’s recent expansion announcement, EverQuest haven’t really given users all that much [...]
