Default Gillamina's Elemental Research - Infected Paw Augment Quest

This is a pretty cool little quest that results in a 60hp / 60 mana / 60 end type 8 augment.

As you may or may not know, the old Split Paw zone was revamped some time ago and is now a level 65-75ish zone - the story behind it was a binch of elementals invaded Split Paw and killed all the Gnollls and took over.

The quest, Gillamina's Elemental Research starts at the zone in where you meet Gillamina. You don't need to pick up a task or anything so don't worry about that - all she asks you to do is to pick up 4 elemental orbs and return them to her for research.

Each orb comes from a different elemental named in the zone (always drops one; no other loot drops) which spawn after you kill x amount of that elemental type which is pretty easy to do cos there are loads of mobs kicking about.

The zone revamp holds true to the old Split Paw - it's very easy for a simple pull / kill to turn into loads of adds. The killer is that there are loads of mobs that path about the zone on top of the stationary mobs about the place. The good news is the agro range is pretty small so if you can find yourself a quiet corner somewhere then it's easy to hold a camp.

All mobs are mostly / partially slowable, don't summon, don't see invis and can be rooted / snared. You can find various mobs will resist certain spell lines depending on what type they are (posion won't land on earth mobs for example) but I had no trouble slowing all mobs with both the BST and the SHM.

Each type of mob (fire, water, air, earth) has different attributes - some malo, tash, root, nuke, stun, heal or have higher HP and so on.

Mobs range from 65 to 70 and hit for 600's - some quite fast so a slower would be essential for most people going here. They have decent HP on them so bring your best DPS!

When the nameds pop (same place all the time) in 4 different camps, there will be a zone wide emote - they pop quite frequently and any camp you hold will usually result in each popping eventually (as all the trash mob types are mixed together so you tend to kill an equal amount of each).

The 4 nameds are for the Gillamina's Elemental Research quest items are:
  • Blazemaster Arnab (Fiery Elemental Orb)
  • Earthmaster Grundag (Earthen Elemental Orb)
  • Tidemaster Aquinius (Watery Elemental Orb)
  • Windlord Brizoris (Air Elemental Orb)
The nameds are slightly higher level than normal mobs, but not much tougher - shouldn't pose a problem if you can exp there. They all spawn in areas near the bridge that goes over water (head to the north of the zone from the entrance). When on the bridge, the nameds can be found:
  • Earth - drop right off the bridge into water and continue in that direction - named is spawned in the ledge near the water.
  • Wind - continue forward over the bridge - named is close.
  • Water - continue over the bridge and take a U turn to your left - at the end there is a ledge opposite where the name spawns.
  • Fire - continue over the bridge and take the left (the direction towards water), then a right into a large room - named is in there.
If you can get a camp around the bridge area you will less than 30 secs away from the nameds (you can invis to them). They despawn after a while if you don't kill them.

When you have all 4 orbs, give them to Gillamina at the zone in and you'll get your orb in your inventory.

Other than the quest nameds, there are other nameds in the zone which you will find in most camps - the common loot from them isn't great, but the rare stuff can be OK with nice focus effects like Cleave II, etc. Nice twink gear anyway. Trash loot is not bad too, as is the exp. There's also a chance of a mob turning into an "unmasked changeling" which results in a zone specific aug drop as well.

All in all you should be able to solo this in a day - perhaps a couple of sessions if you have a group because you need to get 4 orbs for everyone. Be sure to remember that the augment is type 8 slot - spent ages doing this and then could only equip the aug on one toon cos the rest don't have raid gear!
